UPS delivers more than 13.6 million parcels and documents each day.
UPS can automatically capture customer’s signaturesalong with pickup, delivery and time-card information by using DIAD.
Customer Service representatives can check the status of any package from desktop computer.
Anyone can access the UPS Web site totrack packages, check delivery routes, calculate shipping rates, determine time in transit and schedule a pickup.
UPS is now leveraging its decades of expertise managing its own global deliverynetwork to manage logistics and supply chain management for other companies.

QUESTIONS
1. - What are the inputs, processing and outputs of UPS’s package tracking system?
Inputs: During the pastdecade, UPS has invested billions of dollars into technology and systems to boost customer service; UPS made changes, which in this case represent inputs, in their package tracking system; with these newtechnologies the system became more efficient, easier and available to every employee or customer interested in tracking any package.
Processing: the process of the package tracking system involvesmonitoring packages throughout the delivery process. At various points along the route from sender to receiver, bar-code devices scan shipping information on the package label and information is thenfed into the central computer. Any UPS representative can check the status of any package.
Outputs: The old fashioned way of doing delivery business was an output for UPS that was replaced bytechnology that at the same time it made the processes more efficient it allow the company to reduce costs as well.
