La nueva versión de 2006 está muy
mejorada con relación a la anterior de 1978 y cuyos comentarios están en rojo. No obstante,todavía no se afina en la correspondencia de muchos de
los aspectos de la dicción como
«anyway» o «old» que ponen
de manifiesto el repetitivo y
descuidado lenguaje del narrador y que son los responsables
de esa actitud poco o nada fidedigna que dan al relato plena
verosimilitud y que espero ir comentándolos en color azul.
lousy 1 icky, crappy, lousy, rotten, shitty,
stinking, stinky, verybad; “a lousy
play”; “it’s a stinking world” 2 lousy
infested with lice; “burned their lousy
clothes” 3 dirty, filthy, lousy vile;
despicable; “a dirty (or lousy) trick”; “a
filthy traitor” X usually ropey, slang :
extremely unsatisfactory. Pésimo,
“and all” (393 veces), «as hell»
(82), «hell» (132), «old» (652),
«damn» (125) y «goddam» (245)
repetidos tan constantemente y a
lo largode todo el texto, se convierten en leitmotiv; este impacto
narrativo se pierde en el texto de
llegada al no traducirse casi nunca en el texto antiguo; con ello se
desvirtúa también la actitud del narrador-protagonista, perdiéndose
así la caracterización, la cohesión
y la consistencia que tiene el tono
original, aparte de los efectos específicos en cada caso. Son excepción a este casotérminos como
«Boy» (65) que se traduce siempre y a lo largo de todo el texto por
«¡Jo!» (77) lo que parece un acierto. Uno desearía que hubiese sucedido igual con todas las expresiones anteriormente mencionadas. El hecho de encontrar aciertos como este último indican que
la traductora no atendió con igual
rigor y hasta las últimas consecuencias sus posibilidades de
traductora en todos los aspectosdel
texto de llegada.

(casa) destartalado 3 (empresa) venido a menos
lamentable, decrépito, miserable, etc.

like that, especially my father.

madman
stuff

happened to me around last
Christmas just before I got

m y brother and all. He’s in
Hollywood. That isn’t too far
from this crumby place, and he
comes over and visits me
practically every week end. He’s
going to drive me home w h e n I
