Changing the TG582n Network Settings
This document will guide you through the process of changing the gateway address and/or DHCP pool
settings of your Technicolor TG582n modem.

If you have already verified you have telnet, assigned an IP addressto your computer, and removed all
other connected devices you may proceed directly to Step 4. Access the Network page in modem GUI

Ensuring Telnet is installed on your computer
Telnet is required for a small portion of this procedure.
On Windows XP computers Telnet is automatically installed during the operating system installation while on
Windows Vista/7 thisfeature is not installed by default.
To identify whether Telnet is installed on your computer:
Open a Command Prompt on your computer. To do this..

Click on the Windows Start button
Click on Run
In the ‘Open:’ text entry field insert CMD and click the [OK] button
A black DOS window will open. At the Command prompt type Telnet and press [ENTER]
If you receive a ‘Welcometo Telnet’ message you have Telnet installed. If you receive an error you
will need to follow the steps below to install Telnet before proceeding any further

Installing Telnet on a Windows Vista/7 Computer
If Telnet is not installed on your computer it can be installed via the ‘Add Programs’ facility in the Control
Panel. To do this:

Click on the Windows Start buttonClick on Control Panel
Click on Programs
In the section ‘Programs and Features’
a. Click on Turn Windows Features on or off
5. A list of Windows programs will be displayed
a. Scroll down and place a tick beside Telnet Client
6. Click the [OK] button

Assigning a static IP address on your computer
In order to change DHCP pool settings it is a requirement that no connected computers ordevices are
currently being assigned a dynamic IP address from the modems DHCP pool otherwise errors will occur
during this process.
Disconnect all computers or devices (this includes wireless devices) from the modem except the
computer you will be using during this procedure. In the case of wireless devices like an Apple iPad it is
best to enable ‘Flight Mode’ on the device temporarily to ensureit doesn’t remain connected while
dormant.
Setting a static IP address on a Windows XP computer

Click on the Windows Start button
Click on ‘Connect to’ to open the sub-menu
Click on ‘Show all connections’
In the ‘LAN or High Speed Internet’ section right mouse-click on Local Area Connection
Click on Properties
Double click on Internet Protocolto open the properties windows
Click on ‘Use the following IP address’ to enable the entry fields
Input 192.168.1.10 into the ‘IP address’ field
Input 255.255.255.0 into the ‘Subnet mask’ field
Input 192.168.1.254 into the ‘Default gateway’ field
Click the [OK] button

Setting a static IP address on Windows Vista/7
1. Click on the Windows Start button
2. Click on Control Panel
a. In the‘Network and Internet’ section right click on View network status and tasks
3. Click on Change adapter settings
4. Right mouse click on ‘Local Area Connection’ and click on Properties
5. Double click on Internet Protocol Version 4 to open the properties windows
6. Click on ‘Use the following IP address’ to enable the entry fields
