• Introduction
Matter occurs in nature formed by thousands of differents types of materials or substances. Pure substances are a type of special material with fixed and definedcomposition and they can be elements or compounds. Substances are almost never found in pure state , but forming mixtures. A mixture always is composed of two or more subtances that can present in varyingconcentrations and in any of the 3 fundamental physical states : solid , liquid, gas or combinations. Mixtures whose components are in one phase , are called homogeneus; mixtures whose componentsare in different phases are called heterogeneus. The components of a mixture preserved their individual properties and can be separated through some physical method that do not alter thoseproperties.

Sodium chloride is anionic compound consisting of a sodium cation (Na +) and chloride anion (Cl-).Sodium chloride is readily soluble in water and insoluble or only slightly soluble in most other liquids. It forms small,transparent, colorless to white cubic crystals. Sodium chloride is odorless but has a characteristic taste. It is an ionic compound, being made up of equal numbers of positively charged sodium andnegatively charged chloride ions. When it is melted or dissolved in water the ions can move about freely, so that dissolved or molten sodium chloride is a conductor of electricity; it can be decomposedinto sodium and chlorine by passing an electrical current through it (see electrolysis).
