Civil rights movement: In the 1950s and 1960s, there was racism in united states, black people were required to drink from separate water fountains than whites, they couldn’t study with whitechildren and had to pay taxes in order to vote.
They wanted to have the same civil rigths of white people so decided to made the movement. On August 28, 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King led a march onWashington D.C.to demand increased civil rights for African Americans.
Music: Songs were very important in this civil rigths movement.  Along the way protesters sang songs and were presented famousmusicians like Odetta, Marian Johnson, Mahlia Jackson, Joan Baez and Bob Dylan.
Since 1973 was a cappella music and introduced a generation to the roots of African-American music: gospel, spirituals andhymns as well as the blues and jazz.
And also folk that are the result of individual creation, either by villagers or by professional or church musicians whose work is somehow taken up in the folkculture.
Joan baez: Was born in New York, United States January 9 /1941. Folk singer, known as "The Queen of the protest song." Characterized by a strong voice, sharp, and a controlled vibrato toenhance the drama of the lyrics; is the greatest figure of the protest song that emerged in the sixties, the heat of the War Vietnam.
Daughter of a literature teacher, physicist John Baez's cousin, anddaughter of renowned physicist Albert Baez Mexican-American, co-inventor of the X-ray microscope and author of important books on physics
His father refused to work by personal convictions in thedevelopment of the atomic bomb in the Manhattan Project and later refused to work in lucrative jobs in the arms industry, fact that influenced the young Joan. The Baez family, very religious, became aQuaker worship during childhood of Joan
