Competitiveness in Mexico

Competitiveness is a way to measure how well is to do business in a country o how are the enterprises from that country doing globally. Each year the World Economic Forum releases the Global Competitiveness Index, where they analyze, the events that affect the economic world, and how they affect the countries specially the competitiveness, so this way people con knowwhere is easier to do business and where they have better chances to succeed. To measure the competitiveness of each country they must analyze each of the twelve pillars of competitiveness, which include: institutions, infrastructure, government, education, technologies, and markets, among others. We will now take a look at how Mexico is doing in this reports and what is what we are missing torank among the top.

Right now Mexico is at place 66 and it has been dropping for the last years, just 12 years ago we were at place 31 so this means a really important drop in this Index, right now talking about the twelve pillars, our best places are in Market size (12) and in Macroeconomic environment (25) and our worst places are Labor market efficiency (120) and Institutions (106) on the restof the pillars we rank around place 75. When talking about our strong pillars according to the index we can see that we have a great market for doing business and that we are not exploiting it as we should, and we analyze our spot in Macroeconomic spot we tend to thing that it is good but according to the Mexican senator, Yeidckol Polevnsky Gurwitz, that just means that we are being just as afabric by the great economies and she also said it´s embarrassing Mexico is placed as one of the best economics indicators when millions of Mexicans don´t have access to food and even less a good education or a job, (Polevnsky, 2012). On our weak pillars, at least me as a Mexican I was expecting it, because I think Mexicans in general are not willing to work hard and gain a good life an when talkingabout Institutions, I have been leaving all the problems with the government and sadly all the corruption that exists in my country.

When talking about what we can do better and where are the opportunities to grow I think it´s pretty clear the best thing that could have to Mexico is the have a great president, that would be willing to take Mexico to the next level, and by that I mean trying toend the corruption that has taken the country by storm, another factor would mean the war against the drug cartels that has been going on in Mexico in the past years and has made it one of the most dangerous countries in the world, what affects the interest of foreign industries to invest in Mexico and the other thing in which Mexico has to work really hard is in the education because basiceducation in Mexico is not good at all the same people has been in charge for that matter since years ago and they just do whatever they want without really thinking about what the country needs and in the best interest of Mexican people, and when talking about higher level of education, most of the Mexicans drop out in middle or high school and only a small percentage arrives to colleague and an evensmaller percentage graduates, so I think we should really work on that so that Mexico has better prepared people in the companies. According to legislator José Isabel Meza Elizondo, working on a better education wouldn´t only raise those pillars, that would also mean that Mexico would have better technologies and would have more innovations, because at school people stimulate creativity, interestand the capacity to discover (Meza, 2012), so by attacking one of the weakness of Mexico we can double win.
