Rio Lagartos biosphere &
Ek Balam RuinsThe biosphere Rio Lagartos, is one of the biggest and most important mangrove zones and petenes of the Yucatan Peninsula. In the region, there are fewhuman settlings, which help the concentration of animal species.

The reserve has a total surface of 60,347.82 hectares, divided in 6 main zones and zones of damping, being a complex of terrestrialecosystems, sweet and salty water mix; present a great diversity of flora, we can find 10 types of vegetation: middle jungle subperenifolia, low jungle caducifolia, low thorny jungle caducifolia nonfloated grass, mangrove, coastal dune scrub and sea grass vegetation (seibadal). We also find some characteristics in the coast zones of the Yucatan Peninsula called petenes, which have been described astree islands, where the composition of flora is richer than the one inland and is between 18 and 25 m of height. During the trip we will stop to observe some of the miracles of nature that exist in this protected zone, like the saltlakes with their original pink shades.

Thanks to the creation of two other natural parks on the West side, the total protected area covers close to 200 kilometers of shore line and our itinerarywill be of about 25 kilometers.

We will arrive with the boats at the restaurant of nice typical village for a delicious meal of fresh fish.
