“Conversations For The Understanding Of Community Dynamics Between Mexicans And Americans
Dr. Enrique Esquivel-Lopez *
Abstract
| |My approach for the understanding ofcommunity dynamics between Mexicans and Americans assumes that the integration| |
| |of North America as an economic region means the expression of a third force to compete in the global arena andthe| |
| |possibility for Mexico to establish a dynamic of community with more progressive economies. Through the North | |
| |American Trade Agreement (NAFTA), Mexico has reconfigured its traderelationships with the United States and Canada| |
| |as part of its effort to address the asymmetry that currently colors the dynamic of our communities. NAFTA | |
| |supporters believe thatthe existence of self-regulatory forces in the economy are capable of transforming and | |
| |reforming societies in the common interest of common wealth, suggesting that socio-culturalconditions are | |
| |subordinated to economics. My question here is: What dynamics are we having in our communities for promoting a | |
| |common understanding between Mexicans and Americans? What kind of intercultural narrative? Currently, critics and | |
| |supporters of NAFTA still debate and discuss the social and political benefits and risks of the treaty. Whereas, in| |
||contrast, little is known about efforts in educational organizations to develop a common regional understanding | |
| |between Mexicans and Americans.| |
| | | |
| |Key words: community, dynamics, NorthAmerica, intercultural communication, hermeneutics. | |
