My Brother and My Sister
No two people are exactly alike, and my brother Rafael and my sister Liz are no
exception. In my family, we are five children: two brothers, two sisters, and myself. I have
always asked myself, how can anyone explain siblings who, in spite of being raised in the same
household by thesame people, are like night and day? Even though we have the same parents,
my brother Rafael and my sister Liz have notable differences and some similarities in looks,
personality, and values.
First of all, my brother and sister have very different looks. My brother Rafael is tall and
has a full-moon face with brown eyes. He has black hair and tanned skin. His tanned skin andbig
arms make him look somewhat graceful. Rafael always likes to wear informal clothes. He
always wears comfortable t-shirts and jeans, but mostly sporty clothing. His voice is very deep
and sounds like a radio announcer. In contrast to Rafael, Liz, who is my older sister, looks more
like a traditional European. She is of average height. Her face is long and angular with Europeanfeatures. Unlike Rafael, Liz has green eyes and light brown hair. She has smooth white skin and
a toned body. In contrast to Rafael, Liz always likes to wear formal clothing. She always wears
elegant dresses and skirts. She looks like a business woman. Her voice is annoying and sounds
like a whistle. But not everything is different between both of them. They also, have things incommon. Both of them have the same genes because they belong to the same parents. They have
the same mole in the back, which is exactly in the same spot. They also have the same gestures
when they are angry. The gestures are noticeable because they are similar to my mother’s angry
gestures. They have some looks in common and not everything is different.
Rafael and Liz also havedifferent personalities. Rafael is a perfectionist in everything he
does. In school, he was the kind of student who would be mad and disappointed if he made a B
instead of an A. To prevent to get a B on his grades, my brother studied all night and limited his
sport activities. Another personality trait is his attitude. Rafael never smiles, only when he is
happy. Honestly, I don’t knowwhen he is happy or not because he is very bipolar. When he talks
to people, he looks at their faces, and it almost looks like he is ready for battle. On the other
hand, Liz is very different. She didn’t care too much about grades in school. She was very social
and preferred to spend time with her friends than to study. She is very smart, so she always
passed the classes. However, she just did enough to get by. In contrast to Rafael, Liz always
smiles. She smiles because she wants to make people happy or to make herself happy. She smiles
at everybody all the time, regardless of whether they are right or wrong. Despite all of these
differences in personality, one similarity stands out. When they have a problem that they can not
fix, both of them can getreally stressed out and it is very noticeable. I can’t even talk to them
because they would ignore me.
A third way that my brother and my sister differ is in values. Rafael is very traditional
and tries to preserve all that my parents have taught us. He believes in the importance of family;
indeed, he is now married with two children. My brother is also very religious. He and hiswife
take the children to church on Sunday and sometimes during the week. In addition, my nieces
are required to bless the food before eating it, and they mostly say prayers before going to bed at
night. While Rafael values tradition, Liz is more modern. She is 36 years old and also married.
She has only one child. She is more open minded. Instead of following what my parents...
