RESUMEN
La exploración de lo que ha dado en llamarse la trastienda de la investigación admite diversas
aproximaciones. Una de ellas es la que centra la atención en el cómo se hizo tal o cual obra, o cómo
surgió una línea de investigación, bien a través del testimonio del autor principal, bien de alguien del
equipo o grupo de investigación, bien de terceros. Aquíno se sigue ese sendero, aunque tampoco se
descarta del todo. Se opta, en cambio, por enfocar el proceso y las experiencias de hacerse investigador
social que convergen en el oficio de la sociología, tal como ésta se ha encarnado en unos pocos casos de
cierto relieve. Se apunta a una suerte de trastienda histórico-biográfica de la investigación, en la que se
trata de promover el conocimiento deeste oficio a partir de una exploración de materiales cualitativos
diversos. No se trata tanto de componer esbozos de (auto)biografías intelectuales, sino de reunir y releer
algunas de las disponibles (junto con toda una gama de testimonios relacionados), para abrir la puerta al
descubrimiento y teorización de aspectos que merecen registrarse. Tampoco hay una pretensión de
desvelamiento oreconstrucción de lo auténtico. Sencillamente se piensa que hay diversas formas de
representación de la experiencia investigadora vivida (no solo las más formales o académicas); también
de presentación de la persona que investiga. Aquí nos interesan especialmente las de tipo biográfico o
autobiográfico. Se sigue así una línea de indagación e innovación metodológica a la que se viene
prestandoatención desde la actividad docente e investigadora.

abStRact
The exploration of what has been called the backstage of research admits diverse approaches. One of
them is the one that focuses attention on how such-and-such work became, or howa line of investigation
arose, either through testimony of the main author, or of somebody of the team or research group, or of a
third. Here that footpath is not followed, although it is not discarded either as a whole. It is chosen,
however, to focus on the process and the experiences of becoming a social researcher that converge in the
trade of sociology, as this one has been incarnated ina few outstanding cases. It is aimed at a sort of
historical-biographical backstage of research, in which one prosecutes to promote the knowledge of this
trade from an exploration of diverse qualitative materials. There is no such a pretension of composing

sketches of intellectual (auto)biographies, but to reunite and to reread some of the available ones (along
with a range of related testimonies), to open the door towards the discovery and theorization of aspects
that deserve to be registered. Neither it is attained to uncover or reconstruct the authentic. Simply one
thinks that there are diverse formsof representation of the lived investigating experience (not only the
most formal or academic ones); also of presentation of the self that investigates. Here we are specially
interested on those experiences of biographical or autobiographical type. It is followed therefore a line of
