Small DC Motors - Application GENERAL
TYPE DESIGNATION
Small DC designs are identified with the various electrical designs:
Type Electrical Design T Rotating and straight DC TR Rectified power TP Type Electrical Design Permanent magnet, straight DC TPP Permanent magnet, rectified power

MAXIMUM VOLTAGE - is 250 volts with standard insulation. For
higher voltages, integral frame sizes arerecommended. Minimum voltage is 75 volts in standard construction. 12 volt and up are available with HP derated as limited by brush current density.

V*S Master Motor

FORM FACTOR - of the current is the ratio of the root-mean-square
value of the current to the average value of current. For straight DC, the form factor is 1. For motors operated on rectified power, the AC ripple content of therectified current will cause additional heating, which increases as the square of the form factor. A motor is suitable for operation at the form factor stamped on the nameplate or lower at rated load and rated speed. Actual motor heating when run in the application with the intended power supply should be determined by test and is the responsibility of the purchaser.

SERVICE FACTOR WINDINGS

APPROVALS, LISTINGS

All motors aredesigned for the service factor 1.0.

48 and 56 frame DC motors are Underwriter (UL) listed and Canadian Standards Assoc. (CSA) approved. Additionally, hazardous (XP) motors carry (UL) hazardous listings for the class and group specified.

The shunt motor is the standard price book listed motor. The compound motor is designed with the series field not to exceed 15% of the total excitation. The designis capable of series windings up to 50% of the total excitation for special applications.

TORQUE CHARACTERISTICS

Example: Tomaintain 20:1 speed range for a.50 HP motor, multiply .50 x .60, for the HP. 2 HP motor requires derating to 90% of above at 50% speed and below.

Type T motors are designed for the following typical torque characteristics: (defined as torque available under stable operating conditions.)

ENCLOSURES
SXT motors are specially constructed to withstand the corrosive atmospheres of chemical plants, oil refineries, paper mills and other corrosive environments. Typical applications include pumps, mixers,blowers, fans or motors used in salt laden, wet or humid locations.

BRUSH ACCESS

Brush access is not available on explosion-proof motors. All other 56 frames have brush access from outside the frame.
