Gender Difference: Myth or Reality?
A post-structuralist view to inequalities between men and women.

SinceI am able to reason, there had been certain imposed patterns. When playing with others, there was always a division into two groups: the girls group and the boys group. In the group of the girls,they girls were dressed with soft and delicate colors, wrapped in ribbons and curl, clean and tidy, relaxed playing with dolls. On the other side, the boys, running and jumping inordinately, with smallcar or a piece of wood in hand, at the ceaseless activity. We grow like this, every type in its genre. I wonder why it is socially wrong for boys to play with dolls or girls to be part of an endlessstruggle of mud?

To begin answering my question, I would like to highlight the gender and sex definition. Gender is the difference made when referring to human beings, therefore we obtained twotypes: male and female. With this I am not referring to the sex of individuals, but the behaviors considered feminine or masculine. Since birth, this difference is marked. When looking at the genitalsof the child, it is appointed as a girl or as a boy. At this point, it is where gender start to function. Gender is a category that seeks to explain the difference between human beings correspondingto the socio-cultural order made on the basis of sexuality. Feminist theories, whether psychoanalytic, postmodern, liberal or critical, all set in the constitution of gender the differences as asocial and historical process. Therefore, any interpretation of these differences is a process that is socially constructed.
