Chapter III
In this chapter, the author, Tania Savory relates how A. Lincoln, 15 years-old, was growingfaster physical and emotionally, being different to others in appearance and thoughts. Abe reinforces his advocacy for the animals and he shows us his real convictions and desiresfor the future, taking advantages of the minimum opportunities to learn more by reading books about important personages or places that he wanted to know. He didn’t consider anyrisk or difficulty to reach his desires as he had great ambition to explore and discover “the wider and fairer world”, that is, the rest of the world far from Pigeon Creek.
At15 years- old, Abe was six feet, four inches, tall and thin. Such different appearance made that someone call him “scarecrow”, which was not a big deal for Abe. Instead he used hisspecial features as an advantage to make fun of any experience. He was a fierce defender of animal .Once he saw that young people were torturing a turtle, so, he used his wordsand argued that animals are creatures of god as are humans. Abe was an intellectual. While young people his same age were courting girls, Abe’s deep interest was in reading booksabout president’s lives, navigation and traveling. Once he walked miles to get the Biography of President Washington. He had an opportunity to travel to New Orleans and earneight dollars a month which became the greatest experience and opportunity to explore the different life that existed outside of his small town, Pigeon Creek.
In sum, his particularpersonality, defending his ideas with a calm attitude, with clear vision of the future and his great sense of responsibility, Abe made people recognize him as generous and honest.
