Author’s Biography.
Antoinette Moses is a graduate of the UEA Creative Writing MA and she completed a creative PhD on verbatim theatre in 2009. Prior to becoming a full-time writer, she had a career in arts administration and journalism. She re-founded the Cambridge Animation festival which she directed from 1979 to 1984 and was the editor of Direct, the journal of the DirectorsGuild of Great Britain.
She’s written a number of plays which have been produced in Norwich and Cambridge and have received rehearsed readings in Ipswich, London and Paris. She’s also published over fifteen books of language learner literature and she is particularly interested in all forms of documentary and the interweaving of factual and imagined material in both theatre and prose.Characters.
Saul Grant.
He didn’t like talking to his computer. He liked writing and found it difficult to think and talk at the same time. (page 5)

Ruth Hunter.
Ruth Hunter was a bright, lively woman with a loud laugh. She was able to use the computer, do her own shopping, cleaning and cooking. (page 8)

Sue Hunter.
Sue Hunter was Ruth’s granddaughter. (page 24)

Dick Lane.
Dick Lane was a part of BEATCON’s specials, the winners of competitions among the units of BEATCON.(page 20)
Dick thought he was the best. (page 20)
He was nineteen years old and had been a member of BEATCON for a year. (page 20)
He worked out in the gym every day for an hour before he went to bed. (page 20)
Dick thought Captain Marrs was wonderful and wanted to be like him. (page 20)
Captain Marrs.
Captain Marrs was the head of BEATCON. (page 20)
Captain Marrs had a game in which heshot pictures of new terrorists he discovered, he thought it was amusing. (page 20)
Marrs joined the army when he was 18, he was very quick and keen. (page 22)
Marr’s father and brother were killed by a terrorist bomb, and he saw how his mother killed herself two years after that. (page 22)
Situations.
* On page 26, it says that Saul doesn’t like being told to do something. I relate to thisbecause I don’t like it when people tell me what to do, it’s my life and I think I’m in control of it and I think I’m responsible enough to know what to do unless the problem is bigger than me.
* On page 43, it says that Captain Marrs hates forests. I relate this to my life because I’ve never really liked going to forests or stuff like that. I enjoy being in the city a lot more, I feel like I’mbeing exposed to too many dangers in forests.
* On page 46, it says that Saul thought that the real world is terrible compared to his virtual life. I think if we all lived in a virtual life like this we would all hate the real word too, because we wouldn’t feel as safe and we wouldn’t be able to deal with it.
