Alfredo Espino
(Edgar Alfredo Espino Najarro, Abroad, 1900 - San Salvador, 1928) Salvadoran poet from the publication of his only book,Tristes cups,has been one of the most-read lyrical in his country and is considered one of the authors American literary classics.
Born into a large family (thesecond of eight children), was son of the poet Alfredo Espino, a member of a prominent dynasty ofteachers, doctors and writers. The young Alfredo received athorough academic training ended in 1927, his doctorate from the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences at the University of El Salvador with a sociology thesison aesthetics.
At an early age he began to publish literary contributions in journals and Opinion Lumen student and newspaper Diario La Prensa and ElSalvador. He led a bohemian lifestyle that leddissipated to fall in frequent alcohol crisis, one of which took his life when he was little more thantwenty years of age. His remains, buried in the first instance in the General Cemetery of SanSalvador, were later transferred to the Crypt called thePoets, in the churchyard of the Gardens of Remembrance.
His compositions, and loose papers scattered in different publications were compiled by his father inorder to put them intoprint. Part of this collection, prefaced by an illuminating text by the poet Alberto Masferrer, was published in 1932 in thejournalSocial Reform. Because of its impact, was born in 1936 in book form a more complete and representative collection of his work which he graduated cups sad.
