Early life
Abraham Lincoln was bor non frebruary 12, 1809, in a one-room log cabin in Kentucky. His family were poor. As a child, heloved to read, but there were no books at home and he had to borrow them from neighbours.
Work and family
As a young man, he had alof different Jobs. He managed a shop, he managed a post office, he was soldier… but in his spare time he studied law and in 1836 hebacame a lawyer.
In 1842 he married Mary Tood. They had four children: all boys. Linconln was now a successful lawyer and the familybougth a big house in Springfield, Illinois.
Lincoln then went into politics. In November 1860, at the age of 41, he became the 16thpresident of the USA. The Lincolns went t olive in Washington.
Slavery and the civil war
Alter Lincoln’s election, there were problems.The states in the sout of the USA had African slaves. Lincon Wanted to stop slavery. In 1861 the southern states decided to lave the USAThe American Civil War started.
On April 9, the Civil War ended. The north won and the Routh lost. The slaves were free.
Assassination:One Hjek alter the end of the Civil War, on April 14, 1865, Abraham and Mary Lincon went to the theatre, John Wikes Booth WAS there. Hehated Lincon for freeing the slaves. At 10.15 that night, in the theatre, Booth shot the president, Lincon die the nex day.
