Essay 2
First Artistic Concept

The first concept I am going to relate with on this second writing assignment is the art of painting. Personally I think that painting is easily the mother of many forms of art that exist out there. Going back to ancient times many people used painted to express emotions, communicate amongst each other and relate to symbolisms that help them relate tosomething. “Clearly painting has inspired extravagant admiration in cultures where it is practiced, even today, if you ask ten people to envision a work of art, nine of them are likely to imagine a painting”. This clearly explain how painting maintain its popularism amongst cultures not only because it representative of history, nature, divine powers, but because it provides a medium for people toexpress something. In my opinion I think there are two types of painters, the ones that paint what how they see the world, and the ones that paint what they feel. The type of painting that I really enjoy is the oil painting which is an example of a non-aqueous medium, consisting of pigment compounded with oil. One reason why I like oil painting is because the artist has a lot of potential to mixeddifferent colors, they can laid colors next to each other and give the painting various effects of shadowing, light, contrast, and overall the colors are very bold. Also oil painters enjoy of a flexibility for their work of arts, in addition to the use of canvases or wooden panels for smaller paintings.

One Visual Example

One example that really impressed me is the painting in oil on canvasby artist Frida Kahlo "Henry For Hospital” 1932. As previously mentioned I think that Frida Kahlo was a artist that often if not always painted how she felt, many people confused her paintings with surrealism but one of the things that she always clarified is this point, her paintings were as realistic as life itself and many of them reflected pain and wounds in her life. By looking at thispainting Frida expresses her feelings towards suffering and the cultural shocks of living outside her beloved Mexico. The painting clearly shows the coldness she felt in the US by images of the cities and technology, her image is representative of her major suffering which were loosing her mother, her miscarriage, hip problems and the distance from her Mexico. The colors used in her memoriesincluding her image are bold, dramatic and very symbolic especially with the use of red and purple.

Personal Life example

Few months ago I had the opportunity to visit Mexico city for a business assignment and definitely after admiring some of Frida’s art at the Casa Azul museum. Her work really explained a lot of what the reality was during the 20s and the 30s. As a communist, she disliked theUnited States which explains how she portrayed their culture as cold and gray. By looking at some of the paintings while she was in Mexico I was able to note the differences between the two cultures, for example, “Self Portrait With Monkey And Parrot” 1942. This painting shows how passionate Mexican and colorful Mexican culture is. From food flavors and colors, to impressive arquitecture, native arts and of course great painters such as Frida Kaloh make me understand how diversity and culture this country projects.

Second Artistic Concept

The second concept I am going to talk about is graphic design. Many times Art allows the admirer to perceive and interpret themselves in many ways. Paintings, drawings, and many sculptures weather realistic or surrealistic they often don’tcommunicate a clear message. Graphic design is the complete opposite. The art of graphic design involves communicating a single message. This message can be related to a product, guideline, action, feeling, language etc. Graphic designs can be used as symbols, brand logos, cultures, countries, most of the most successful designs are simplistic and full of visual appeal. As mentioned in the...
