Energias Renovables
• Non-renewable energy sources or conventional sources of energy such as “fossil fuels” (coal, oil, natural gas) and uranium are those energy sources that humans are usingup and cannot be replenished in a short period of time. Although, the available quantity of these fuels are extremely large, they are nevertheless finite and so will in principle “run out” some timein the future.
Non-renewable energy sources
During a typical day, which of these resources do you use directly or indirectly?
Commercial energy use by the world
• Known and projectedglobal reserves of conventional oil will be 80% depleted between 2050 and 2100. • We have three options: 1.- Look for more oil 2.- Reduce oil use and waste, or 3.- Use other energy resourcesNon-renewable energy sources
Non-renewable energy sources
Renewable energy sources
• Renewable energy sources also called nonconventional energy, are sources that are continuously replenished bynatural processes. Most renewable energy comes either directly or indirectly from the Sun. • Renewable energy sources are essentially flows of energy, whereas the fossil and nuclear fuels are, in essence, stocks of energy
Forms of renewable energy
• • • • • • • Solar energy Wind energy Bio-energy Hydro energy Geothermal energy Wave energy Hydrogen energy
Solar energy
• Solar energy is themost readily available and free source of energy. It can be used directly for heating and lighting homes and other buildings, for generating electricity, and for hot-water heating.
Solar energySolar energy can be converted directly to heat by passive or active systems: • A passive solar heating system absorbs and stores heat from the sun directly within a well-insulated structure without theneed for pumps or fans to distribute the heat • An active solar heating system absorbs energy from the sun by pumping a heat-absorbing fluid (such as water or an antifreeze solution) through special...
