The novel “The oOther tTree of Guernica” by Luis de Castresana was such an inspiration for my theme “The effects of war in the individual” showing the consequences of war through the eyes of an eleven year old refugee sent away from his parents.HOW DID YOU INTERACT WITH OR TRANSFORM THE ORIGINAL? For myfiction LITERARYtext “Learning how to dream” I ALSOdecided to focus on the child’s perspective, using fairy tale conventions through ??the imagination and lack of understanding of a young girl. The purpose of this text was to deliver an anti-war message to teenagers and young adults. In order to give shape to my story I read “Revolting Rhymes” by Roald Dahl, which gave me ideas of how to twist anytale and make it look mysterious.ANGELA CARTER “THE BLOODY CHAMBER”? For my non-fiction task I was moved by the story of Pope John Paul II during the Second World War SOURCE TEXT??and decided to write an article tellingGIVING the first hand experience of one of Spain’s most important religious figures during the Spanish Civil War. This article would be made for a Spanish right wing WHY? WOULDN’T YOU WANT A WIDER AUDIENCE FOR THIS CONTROVERSIAL PIECE?RIGHTWINGERS WOULD ALREADY SHARE YOUR P O V newspaper such as ABC or El Mundo in the year 2011.
“Once upon a time. Who doesn’t know how a good story begins?” these are the first two phrases in my literary piece.UNNECESSARY. BE AS BRIEF AND ECONOMICAL AS POSS WHEN REFERRING TO YOUR TEXT. THIS WILL SAVE VALUABLE WORDS With them I wanted the audience to know that even if I have written a fairy tale,it is not like the traditional tales everybody has heard before; so by saying those words I am trying to attract the reader’s attention. I AM SUBVERTING OR REPOSITIONING THE GENRE AND PLAYING WITH THE GENERIC EXPECTATIONS OF MY READER EG IN GENDER AND ADULT/CHILD ROLES
I chose to write my fiction piece in third person because in that way the omniscient narrator could tell the reader about what washappening in both of my settings. I decided to set the story mainly in Canon Pyon because it gives an enormous contrast when comparing it to a metropolitan city like Barcelona.BUT YOU HAVEN’T CREATED MUCH SETTING. IS THAT BECAUSE FAIRY TALES OFTEN HAVE GENERIC/UNIVERSAL SETTINGS? I DON’T SEE THE “ENORMOUS” CONTRAST BUT I ACCEPT YOU HAVE CONTRASTED THE CHILDLIKE LANDSCAPE OF c PYON , AND THEADULT/REAL WORLD OF WAR The language used through the short story is informal EXAMPLES OF INFORMALITY?and uses childish AND GENERICALLY APROPRIATE lexis “Daddy”, “Monster”.
To be able to write my short story I utilised ideas from previously written short stories such as Dickens’ “Alice in Wonderland” EH????????????????? LEWIS CAROL!and most importantly “Little Red Riding Hood” fromBY the BrothersGrimm. This last story was mentioned in my work as I wanted the audience to indirectly think of my protagonist Linda as little red riding hood THIS IS A NAME!!!and therefore the “wolf “would be the Spanish Civil War.HOW CAN IT BE A “WAR”? BE SUBTLER. IT REPRESENTS THE WARRING/FRATRICIDAL INSTINCT THAT HAS LED TO THE WORST OF ALL TYPES OF WAR
