I chose the book The Apostles by Benedict 16 because I thought it would be very interesting to know about them more. I also like how Benedict xvi writes, on a linear form and with a very clearprospective. With this book I could understand the meaning of the apostolate better, and rejoice with the constant exhortation to conversion and to the evangelization. In the Apostles, the origins of thechurch show how it’s essential structure has corrupted or tampered with time. Everyone has a mission, and every apostle, even Judas Iscariot, was -and is- important for the mystery of salvation.
It isvery important. This tradition is not a catalog of things, or words, or a box with dead theories. This tradition is a new way of life, a river that flows from the origins, from Christ to us, and thatmakes us participates with the church. “The Second Vatican Council notes this purpose, which is apostolic tradition since its origins, 'God, with great kindness, provided that what he had revealed forthe salvation of its people remain to as always integrated and be transmitted to all generations.’” (Benedict xvi 42) This tradition is one of the essential parts of the Church. The one who carriesthis tradition, this good news, is the apostle.
The apostle is concerned with transmitting what he has received. In the beginning there were twelve apostles, and now, those who have taken place fromthe originals are the bishops. They have the mission to transmit to the people the glory of God. There are also people who aren’t bishops but are sent in the name of Jesus Christ to evangelize, andthey are apostles of the Church. Apostle means “sent”. This “sent” people form the Church in every part of world.
The lord trusted this new reality, the Church, to these twelve apostles. The first oneis Saint Peter. He was the one in which the Church sustained itself, and with the Church, all the people of God. But we have to understand also, that he was a traitor too. He denied Jesus when he was...
