EAGLE HELIACA

The imperial eagle (Aquila heliaca) is a species of bird family Accipitridae accipitriforme distributed by Eastern Europe and much of Asia, where emigrated to Southeast Asia and East Africa in winter. There are small isolated populations in the Austrian and Italian Alps and on the island of Cyprus. The imperial eagle in Spain, Portugal and part of Morocco, considered a subspeciesof golden eagle for a long time, has been recognized as independent species in recent years due to significant genetic differences. Both eagles also differ in their appearance and normal behavior. For this reason, this species is also called Eastern imperial eagle
DESCRIPTION
The imperial eagle is in appearance and proportions similar to the golden eagle of Eurasia and North America but a bitmore modest size. It has a length of 80 inches from beak to tail tip and 2 meter wingspan. Males weigh just over 2.5 kilos, while females, significantly larger, can reach 4.5 kilos. Apart from differences in size, both sexes do not differ apreciables.El plumage is dark brown all over his body except his shoulders, wearing a distinctive white at the tip of the tail (black with a thin white band onits end) and neck, which is light brown or golden. Like the eagle, the imperial eagles are booted eagles, because the legs are covered with feathers all over its surface except in the strong feet of scaly skin and large hooked claws. In Central Asia, its most common prey is the gopher or suslik, a species of ground squirrel. Also frequently hunt rodents, mustelids (some as large as the marten),foxes and birds. The imperial eagles live in areas of grassland dotted with trees, without actually penetrate dense forests or grasslands.

REPRODUCTION

Themselves used as a base thicker branches of the tree, covering the holes with grass and feathers from herown body. The incubation period lasts 43 days, after which some are born white chicks that normally only gets bigger and stronger to leave the nest, killing the rest before. The chicken begins its first flight shortly after two months of age and migrates in winter and so lonely, looking for apartner the following summer. In the wild live 21 years, although in captivity they can reach the 44
CONSERVATION STATUS
the imperial eagle is an animal vulnerable throughout its range and is in danger of extinction in Europe, where it has disappeared from many areas. Is just a small town in the Alps of Trentino and Tyrol as a vestige of its former extent throughout the Austro-Hungarian Empire, which was the emblem of the royal house of Habsburg. The reasons for their decline are the direct persecution of farmers who see it as a threat to their herds and habitat destruction, which is converted to cropland by leaps and bounds. Their situation has improved only slightly since that is a protected bird.

However, the population in Central Europe has been greatly reduced in recent years because of human activity and is extinctin many places where it was abundant. It is the national symbol of Mexico, which is represented on the shield and the flag of that country.
