Essay "Helping Others"

Since the beginning of times survival has been one of the main concerns of human beings. It has been in peoples minds since cave times till now. Obviously the dangers people fear are completelydifferent. Cave men had dinosaurs to think of, people in the Middle Age had to worry about the Inquisition and the Crusades and today human beings face a lot of different dangers and concerns, from whatare they going to eat the next day to being kidnapped or robed or something like that. People do everything they can in order to survive. Survival sometimes takes a lot of thinking about what mattersmost and what is one willing to risk to survive or to help others survive. That’s another important part of surviving, because it is not only one that wants to survive, everybody wants to survive andsometimes our interests collide with other peoples interests or attempts to survive.
If I had to help a classmate to survive, but the consequences wouldn’t be exactly ideal for me, I would have tothink about it really hard. My answer would be automatically yes, if the classmate was my friend, someone that makes my day different, better or someone that simply brings that extra thing to my life.If I talk sometimes to him or her, or we share things, if we had a bond, I would have to help him or her, no matter if I would be beaten up for it, because I care about that person and that would beall that really matters.
But if the classmate was just an acquaintance, I would have to say no. I think that it is really important to remark that the punishment I would get would be a beating orsomething else, and that something else could be even worse than just some beating. Acquaintances aren’t really people that matter in your life, so the risk is not worth it. For all that I know thatclassmate could be someone that bothers me or even is a bully to me, so there wouldn’t be a real reason to help him or her.
