Introduction

Fort Jamestown or Jamestown, Virginia, was the first permanentBritish settlement in the United States. Founded in 1607 on the banks of the James River on a peninsula, in the current U.S. state of Virginia, (USA). Ships Susan Constant, Godspeed and Discovery, with 104 men arrived in the area on May 14, 1607 where they built the fort at Jamestown in less than a month. From then until the present time, the English language took over the country.

Todaythe United States represent the largest number of people who speak the native language of England.

United States has no official language at the federal level, however, the predominant language, which is written in the constitution, laws and in which tasks are performed is the English government. Also some federal laws implicitly standardize the English language. Spoken, but hundreds ofother languages and dialects, Spanish being the most common among them, language also has official recognition in some parts of the Southwest.

This essay aims to present some interesting aspects about the culture of the United States of North America: their customs, characters, attractions, music, food and some other aspects that characterize the English-speaking country.USA

The national flag of the United States of America consists of thirteen equal horizontal stripes of red and white colors. A blue rectangle in the left- upper side which has fifty small white stars the fifty stars represents the fifty states and the thirteen stripes represent the original thirteen colonies.

Languaje

English is the de facto national language. Though no official language at the federal level, some laws-such as requirements for Naturalization-placed English as compulsory language. In 2006,nearly 224 million, or 80% of the population over five years, spoke only English at home. Spanish, spoken by 12% of the population, is the second most spoken language, and most commonly as a second language is learned. Some people are in favor of making English the official language as it is at least twenty-eight states. Hawaiian and English are official languages of Hawaii. Although no officiallanguage, New Mexico has laws that encourage the use of English and Spanish, Just as Louisiana does for English and French. In other states, like California, the publication of certain official documents in Spanish is required. The island territories guarantee official recognition native languages along with English: Samoan and Chamorro are recognized by American Samoa and Guam, respectively,the Carolinian and Chamorro are recognized by the Northern Marianas Islands and Spanish is an official language of Puerto Rico.
