Evaluation Rubric For Effect Of Author´S Life On His/Her Work

CRITICAL RESPONSE - The Effect of the Author’s Personal & Socio-Cultural History

This response requires you to:
➢ Research an author’s personal and socio-historical context
➢ Connectrelevant events from his context with features of his writing
➢ Use textual evidence to support your answer

TASK: In groups of 3 or 4, give a presentation demonstrating how a writer’s personaland socio-historical context influenced his writing. In particular, you should show how it affected the elements of fiction (i.e. themes, characters, setting and their description/relevance, style,etc.); if you wish, you may also consider other aspects of the story (e.g. literary devices, events).

Use the presentation I gave on ‘Oliver Twist’ (on the intranet) to guide you. Your presentationshould include:
1. Clearly presented facts about the author’s personal and socio-historical context and the sources (website addresses) for this information.
2. A (logical) way in which thisinformation is reflected in the story with abundant evidence to support your connection.

Presentations should last 10-15 minutes. Each group member should speak for an equal amount of time.

You willalso be given credit for interesting information and clear, attractive visual materials. Check the rubric carefully.

You may base your presentation on one of the following authors & stories:• Oscar Wilde & ‘Dorian Gray’
