Abstract

The extended essay was established by the thorough analysis of two articles from different magazines such as Teen Vogue and Seventeen. These two articles portray the same topic about weight issues but it is delivered differently on each article causing different effects on the readers. This research was addressed by the following question: How can one topic that is being used by twomajor teen magazines be altered by the use of language and deliver two different messages and cause diverse effects to the readers?
This research was done in order to portray the importance of language in society as well as to obtain a thorough knowledge of the use of language in a written form, also the better understanding of the literary techniques (tone, syntax, diction) that are used inwritten language. Two articles were obtained “Secret reasons you’re struggling with your weight”, from the Seventeen magazine and “ Weight Watcher” from Teen Vogue magazine, these articles were analyzed separately throughout many aspects such as tone, mood, syntax, diction, imagery and stylistic devices, then they were simultaneously taken into deeper analysis and compared within the differenttechniques of language that were used, as well as their messages.
The question was countered by demonstrating how language may be used and altered in order to give different messages and effects on people. Therefore portraying how can from one topic many messages may be delivered to the reader. The purpose of this essay was to explain and provide a further comprehension about the use of language.Therefore demonstrating how the use of language is strongly related to the emotional and physical behavior of humans, therefore it must be used properly when expressing a thought or a topic.

Introduction
Everyday mankind uses language to express and transmit different messages in order to communicate with each other. There are two different ways language may be used, which are: written and oral.The type of language that is going to be analyzed in this essay is the written one, the two articles that are taken as samples from Teen Vogue and Seventeen magazines make usage of a set of various literary terms to achieve their goal, which is to accomplish their purposes with the article and deliver the message to reader. Therefore what its going to be shown in this essay is the process of howtwo articles that handle the same topic but with the usage and alteration of the literary techniques such as tone, mood, and stylistic devices may contribute to the delivery of two completely different ideas and messages to the reader. Therefore leading to the following research question: How can one topic that is being used by two major teen magazines be altered by the use of language and delivertwo different messages and cause diverse effects to the readers?
By analyzing the language of the two articles from magazines such as Teen Vogue and Seventeen, it can be revealed that the intended audiences for these articles are young women from the age twelve to twenty. These fashion magazines majorly influence this select group of young women nowadays as they show the latest trends of whatis “in” o what is “out”. These magazines set many public figures that are very popular and wanted in society by setting publics adds, interviews or a feature that portrays the beauty and success of these public figures, therefore using them to influence young women through the image of success and beauty.
