ESSAY: “The only way to have a friend is to be one”

Human beings are social creatures, for this reason we are “condemned” to live withother humans in a society. Our society is based on relationships and ties. There is a huge sort of human relations, like friendship orfamiliar ties, for instance. In the case of the latter, we cannot choose our relatives, but actually we do choose our friends.
How do we do peoplemake friends? The first friends one makes are the childhood friends. When we are children we just want to play and have fun, we choose ourfriends selflessly and we are not necessarily friends with like-minded people. Not since we grow up a little more, do we care about affinity. We are often friends with people who share interests, hobbies or likes with us. However, friendship implies a lot more than this. A friend isa good listener, a sincere person; a friend is someone who wants what is best for you. They are always by your side to give you a helpinghand, that’s what friends are for.
Friendship is however a reciprocal relationship, you have to give what you expect to get and never treatthe other as you wouldn’t like to be treated.
True friendship is about walking in the other’s shoes, it is also about listening, understanding, helping and obviously about having a good time! So, in order to have a friend you genuinely have to be one first.
