George Bush 9/11 Speech Analysis
In his speech, President Bush talks about the events that occurred on September 11th, 2001 and what those eventsmean to the American way of life. President Bush makes many emotional appeals throughout his speech so his audience will be persuaded by the things that he is saying. He uses emotionalappeals very subtly and discreetly, but he still manages to have a very deep emotional effect on his audience’s understanding of the situation.
President Bush uses a very calm andlevelheaded tone while delivering his speech. He could have chosen to yell and make aggressive gestures, but he decided to keep a very collected tone instead because he was so certain that thethings he was saying were true. He knew he did not need to use extra gestures to convince the people or try to get the people to listen to him because they already wanted to know what he hadto say. They came to the speech wanting to be reassured, and President Bush definitely made them see that America was going to get revenge on the terrorists who were responsible for 9/11.President Bush also used a lot of descriptive language to make connections with his audience. He always says things like “we” and “our country” to put everyone on the same level. Hesays that even though the people in America might be very different, they are united together because they are all Americans, and they should care about what happens to their country.President Bush also mentions some people by name (like Todd Beamer and George Howard) to make the events of 9/11 seem real and more personal. He also uses this tactic when he talks about alQaeda and how they are responsible for the terrorist attack. He wants his audience to see that al Qaeda are like monsters and the American people are just the victims of their terrorism.
