PUJILI
HISTORY
Etymologically Pujilí in Quechua means inn toys. This meaning seems correct, because Pujilí from yesteryear has been and remains a center of pottery production of the first order. Itwas founded in 1657, within the jurisdiction of the Real Audience of Quito.
LACATION
Pujilí is located 11 km from the city of Latacunga, capital of the province of Cotopaxi, and 101 km south of thecapital of the republic.
Its area is 258 square kilometers, and a population of 28.537 habitants, making it the second largest canton of the province. For its geographical location, is a commercialdistribution center to the other cantons. The weather is cold and dry, with temperatures around 14°, is quite cold.
TRADITIONS
It’s one of the most traditional places in the region. Its religiousfestivals are the “Corpus Christi”.
Corpus Christi is a traditional festival where there are religious and pagan events. There are feasts of the Eucharist and also old dances and dances of the Indiansin appreciation of their Sun God for good harvests.

Pujilí is famous for the pottery crafts of La Victoria. The parish of La Victoria, on the activity and production, is thepottery capital of Cotopaxi province, is located 10 km west of Latacunga and 5 km north of Pujili, its main regional town.
