Before I start this journal I think that there are few things that you should know about me so I will introduce myself. My name is Roberto Alfonso Peralta. I am a sophomore at college and my major is in Finance. I am an international student and this is my second year in Tucson. I am originally from Sonora, Mexico anorthwest state that has border with Arizona. The name of the city is “Ciudad Obregon”, it is the second largest city in Sonora, and it is located on the south of state.
Before I take this class, I thought that take any humanities class could be very bored because I was not interested on those topics, or because it seemed to me like another bored history class. I was thinking which class isgood for me, and a friend of mine told me that any class with Mr. Stewart Barr are interesting and funny
After I saw on the internet the class schedule and the class information of each humanities class, I decided to take Western Humanities III because it is about the culture of the modern western world to the present, and I thought that this class could help me to enrich my knowledge ofculture and make me more human understanding.
As I said before, I think that this Humanities class has made me more human understanding and more cultural in many aspects. During this semester on this class, I have learned new vocabulary and have helped me develop certain habits of mind. For example, whenever we have a class discussion, I practiced to seeing things from a different point ofview.
I am always very set on my mind set and what I think. This class of Western Humanities has helped me to see it from other people’s views even though I will still argue my point of view on most occasions. Because of it, I am able to understand other opinions or what other people think and why they think so.
A habit of work that I could improve on during this semester was the habit oflistening. Before I take this class I barely listened during a lesson because most of the history or humanities class are bored. After this class I am able to listen during a class and enjoy it. I like the way that the teacher gave the class because he made it funny and interesting.
I also found myself making suppositions about events that happened in the history of this world. By this I meanasking the question “what if?” for example I wondered what if the scientific revolution would not happened? And this is only an example because with this question there are many more that I can ask.
When I heard “Scientific Revolution” the first name that came to my mind is Galileo Galilei. He was a Genius of the scientific world. I don’t know what the world would be without the existenceof Galileo. This genius is the responsible for many inventions and discoveries that have much influence in our lives today.
Reviewing the first quiz I could find many interesting things on it and what I learned. For example, the first question asks about what is a yahoo. Before this class, I thought that a yahoo
was a kind of Texas cowboy. I don’t why I thought that. When I heard the worldyahoo I imagined the website or a Texas cowboy. Now I know that a yahoo is a kind of brutish person.

Also I did not have a clue what theology studies. I knew what “theo” means, but when I heard this world (theology) from the teacher the first meaning that came to my mind was “the study of Gods in different cultures or religions”. Now I know that theology is a theology holding thatknowledge of God may be acquired by human reason alone without the aid of reveled knowledge.
About the French Declaration of the Rights of Man and the United States Bills of Rights I knew the difference because I took the last semester an American Politics class, but the simple answer that the teacher wanted never came to my mind.
