Hipatia of Alexandria was a Greek Neo-Platonist philosopher born in the year 355, on Alexandria, Egypt. Her father Theon Alexandricus, mathematician, astronomer and director of the Alexandria Museum, and also considered one of the most educated men in Alexandria, influenced Hypatia'senthusiasm for mathematics and sciences as she grew older. She was instructed at the Neoplatonic School of Alexandria, while she was receiving astronomy and mathematics education of his father, at a time whenit was very unusual for women to receive formal education. After her incredible education at neoplatonic schools ofAthens and Italy, Hypatia start working as a philosophy and mathematics teacher at the Alexandria’s Library. About the year 400, Hypatia was declared director of the Neoplatonic school of Alexandria,was characterized by his wisdom and philosophical-religious syncretism, which for centuries school did highlight names like Synesius, Hieracles of Alexandria, Ammonium Saccas, son of Hermeias ofAlexandria and Nemesio Asclepiodoto.
