Complexity and Management
We have been living in a complex world since the beginning of the times, but the society has always found the way to show it much simpler. They probably did this, ina way to feel more comfortable about the phenomena and also to create a “solid” base where they can build their society from.
In management we have our own world; this world is called “Market”. Inthe history of the market we can realize an incredible evolution since the very first “Barter” going thru the development of different coins and money to fulfill the shortcomings of their predecessoruntil nowadays monetary system and online interaction between the consumers and producers.
As we can remember of Pascale’s first introductory video of the Moodle, When Henry Ford developed thefirst serial assembling line for cars, there was only one model constructed, Also there was only one color, “Noir”. He found the way to control his own factory in a simple step-by-step way. The marketof the time had access to a great value product and anybody that could afford it bought it. This phenomenon is repeatedly seen in market history. There have been long periods when the market didn’tcompletely satisfy the demand. In other words, consumers practically bought everything that the producer sells.
Under this market structure, a lot of companies had a great success. They produced some“must to have” products and service and they got big portions of the markets. After that, the economies of scale did the rest. But that was about to change.
New variables changed again the world(Market), the profitable businesses made really attractive to people to entrepreneur in that area, creating the market more and more competitive. This competition creates, in the industry, the need todifferentiate your company product from the others, creating more products variety in the market.
