SUMMARY


A good behavior in the student is linked to the motivation levels of the teacher. Therefore, low motivation levels in the teacher, who is thebackbone of eduaction, has a negative impact on the achievement of high standards in education. The principal responsability for motivating teachers falls to the school administration.
This isthe reason why a study was carried out in order to determine to what degree various motivation sources motivate teachers. This study was based on the views of teachers of primary schools providingeducation in 2006-2007 in Elazig province centre. The sample consisted of 225 teachers selected at random from this area. The questionnaire had two sections; one concerning the personal information ofthe teacher surveyed, and another section with thirty five questions towards establishing the levels of motivative effect of motivation sources on teachers.
After examining the findings regardingthe personal information of the participants, it was identified that the male-female and classroom-subject teacher participant were close in number.
Talking about the findings regarding theeffect of motivation sources on teachers´ motivation levels. The motivation sources that have the most striking positive effect on teachers´motivation are as follows:
1. Feeling safe in the schoolenvironment.
2. Students being successful. This shows the effect of students´ succes on teachers´motivation.
3. Enjoying their job.
4. Having a respectable status in society.5. Having high self-esteem.
6. Realizing that their potential in the profession provides motivation.
7. A positive atmosphere in the school.
