Chapter 1:
Summary
This chapter is the beginning of the book. On it Holden, the protagonist of the story, tell us about his brother D.B., he is be a writer that sometime ago wrote because he liked it, but he didn’t get so muchsuccess by doing it. Now he lives in Hollywood and has a lot of money because he writes stories that, later, he sells to Hollywood so they can turn them on movies. Also Holden don’t talk about so much of his parents. In this chapter, Holden is in a place called Thomsen Hill while in his school there is a football game. Also he tells us how he lost the stuff of the fencing team on a subway in New York.By the way, he wasn’t at the game because he was going to say good-bye to his history teacher. The reason of it was because he wasn’t going to Pencey again and has to return to his home. So he goes to Mr. Spencer house and he meets his wife.
Analysis
Well, es it is the beginning of the book, I can’t say a lot of it yet. Anyways, I think that Holden seems to be very smart. I think that hedoesn’t like the job of his brother because he believe that J.B. should write for himself and not to Hollywood people Also, he loves to read, so I think that the fact of being kicked of the school is because he doesn’t like those subjects and because he didn’t put enough effort on them or even because he may not have taken them really seriously. He is depressed because, as he lost the stuff of the fencingteam, he feels kind of guilty so it isn’t very difficult to know that that situation would have such an effect on him. However, I think he is a good boy, he likes Mr. Spencer, his history teacher, but in some way, he doesn’t know what he wants in the life and he doesn’t have his mind very clear. It’s only that he is having problems that any teenager could have and he doesn’t know very well how tofight against them.
