Vocabulario # 1

1. Constitution = Legal document setting forth rules governing a particular kind of activity.

2. Public law = Law that deals with the state or government and itsrelationships with individuals or other governments.

3. Private law = Law that deals with the legal rights and relationships of private individuals.

4. Civil law = A code of laws adopted by a stateor nation.

5. Legal person = An individual or group that is allowed by law to take legal action, as plaintiff or dependent.


6. Punishment = A penalty or sanction given for any crime oroffence.


7. Offender = Someone who attacks.


8. Claim = To make a demand for money, for property, or for enforcement of a right provided by law.


9. Liabilities = Something forwhich one is liable; an obligation, responsibility, or debt.


10. Duties = Acts which the law requires be done or forborne.


11. Right = Confers powers and rights from the state or anorganization to people, local chapters, or corporations.


12. Law = The legal or judicial system.


13. Enforced = To give force to; urge: to enforce an argument by analogies.


14.Chambers = A place where a judge hears matters not requiring action in open court.


15. Upper house = One of the two houses of a bicameral legislature.


16. Lower house = One of the two houses ofa bicameral legislature: usually the larger and more representative house.


17. Constitution law = Constitutional law is a body of law dealing with the distribution and exercise of governmentpower.


18. Legislature = A body of persons vested with power to make, amend, and repeal laws.


19. Jurisdiction = The right or power to administer justice and to apply laws.


20.Legislative = Of or pertaining to the enactment of laws: legislative proceedings; legislative power.
