AMERICAN INSPIRATION PLACEMENT TEST
Placement test- instructions
This test was designed to help you place your students on the appropriate level of American
Inspiration.
There are two parts to it:
1. Three different multiple-choice tests, each of these, contemplating most of the
structures found in each level of the series.
2. Suggested placement questions for the oral interview.
1.Multiple-choice tests
Students should take one test at a time and if they score 70% or more, they should be given
the next one.
Please, find here the scores and the equivalent book of the series students should be
directed to:
Test 1: fewer than 17 correct answers, AI 1 - more than 17 correct answers, go onto test 2
Test 2: fewer than 17 correct answers, AI 2 - more than 17 correct answers, goonto test 3
Test 3: fewer than 17 correct answers, AI 3 - more than 17 correct answers, AI 4

2- Suggested placement questions for the oral interview
These are suggested questions for teachers to use in the oral interview in order to double check students performance in the multiple-choice test. These were also created for those teachers who prefer to give a placement oral interview in order tocheck student’s oral/aural levels.
In both cases, the oral interview can be done before or after the multiple-choice test.
Please, notice that the questions cover most of grammar structures found in each of the levels of AI.
Individual oral interviews are recommended.
Suggested questions for placement oral interview:

• Do you have brothers and sisters? What’s his/her name?

•What’s your father/mother/brother/sister doing now?
• Where were you yesterday morning?
• Did you go to the movies last weekend? What did you see? or What did you do?
• What do you like doing in your free time?
• Who’s the tallest person in your house?
American Inspiration 3: if student can answer some of the above plus some of the questions below.

• Have you ever been to another country? Where did you go? Where would you

• What will you do tonight if you don’t have homework?
• What will you do if you can’t sleep tonight?
American Inspiration 4: if student can answer some of the above plus some of the questions below.

• What book would you like someone else to read? Why?
• What movie wouldyou like someone else to watch? Why?
• What would you do if you lost your wallet?
• What would you do if you won the lottery? What wouldn’t you do anymore?
• Do you like doing anything else while studying? What?

• What’s your favorite band? When did you first hear them?
