Title: Yes we can!

The target group I shall be focusing on will be the first and second of primary school level, six and seven year olds.
The number of students in the class would be aroundtwenty-five students and their level of English would obviously be quite basic, the recognition and use of some vocabulary and some standard phrases.
The class would last a standard class of 60 minutesbut also in subsequent class aspects of this activity can be reviewed and reinforced. This is also good way for students to learn and use new vocabulary and phrases.
Because this is an interactiveoral grammar activity the materials would be flashcards, prompts and the whiteboard.
For this activity where there will be as much interaction as possible, with games and movement, I believe the bestclassroom arrangement would a horseshoe, this would give us more space in the centre of the class, where the children will need to move around.

The main objective of the lesson is the use of canand can’t, but also there are two other areas that will be covered and they are, the correct pronunciation of can and can’t and also talking about actions i.e. he is jumping, she is dancing.
The lessonplan and procedure is very simple.
The lesson starts by showing flashcards of people doing actions and getting the students to tell you what they are doing. Also to compliment the flashcards and tohelp with a later activity the teacher can act out the activities. It’s not important if the children respond in Spanish as the teacher can translate the new vocabulary, what is important is that theteacher tries focus on the children using a full sentence such as he is jumping. Also at this point the teacher ask students directly what the person is doing using the structure – “Juan, can you tellme what he is doing?” Putting the emphasis on can.
