Fortress of San Fernando de Omoa.
Despite the number of activities you already have planned, the Fortressof San Fernando de Omoa is a must. “The Castillo”, as it is commonly known as, is a Spanish enclosure built partly with remains of coral that served during the Anglo-Hispanic battles in the times of pirates and buccaneers. The design, one of a kind, was never completed. Later the fort fell into complete abandon. The Castillo was once a market and a notorious prison during the dictatorship ofTiburcio Carías Andino during the last century; the types of torture that took place here are quite interesting topics that your guide will share with you. The guide will also take you to see the living quarters, kitchen and chapel. The entrance fee includes entry to the small museum next door. The guide service is not included in the rate and can be negotiated.
