The music of Jamaica
The music of Jamaica includes many popular genres, for example: Folk Music, Jazz, Ska, Reggae and others genres. Jamaica's music isa fusion of elements from the United States, Africa, and neighboring Caribbean islands. The reggae's genre is especially popular through the internationalfame of Bob Marley.
Jazz
From early in the 20th century, Jamaica produced many notable jazz musicians. Also significant was the brass band tradition ofthe island, strengthened by opportunities for musical work and training in military contexts. The most notable Jamaican jazz instrumentalists who madesuccessful careers abroad was alto saxophonist Joe Harriott, now regarded internationally as one of the most original and innovative of jazz composers.
Ska
Skais a music genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1950s, and was the precursor to rock steady and reggae.
The genre is calling Ska, because thecreator of that genre is called Ska Count Ossie. Also Ska later it became popular in the 1960s.
Reggae
In the late 1960's reggae emerged, it’s the mostimportant genre of Jamaica. . Reggae became popular around the world, due in large part to the international success of artists like Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, BunnyWailer and others artists.
Dub
By 1973, dub music had emerged as a distinct reggae genre, and heralded the dawn of the remix. Developed by recordproducers such as Lee "Scratch" Perry and King Tubby. It became famous for his remixes of recordings made by others, as well as those he recorded in his own studio.
