Jefferson Pérez
Jefferson Pérez was an Ecuadorian athlete born the 1st of July of 1974 in the city of Cuenca. He lived in a poor neighborhoodwith his mother, Lucrecia Quezada; his brothers, Fausto, Fabián, Marcia Patricia and Fanny. Unfortunately Jefferson’s father, Manuel JesusPérez, died when he was a child, but after he died, Jefferson promised him that he will be a world champion. To overcome his economic problems he had towork cleaning shoes.
Everything started when he wanted to get a good grade in sport. So he ask his brother Fabián to train with him, and heaccepted. The coach noticed that he had talent for the march and asked him to stay in the group and he could go to other countries, in order toparticipate in international championships. In the year of 1990 when he was 17, he flied to Plovdiv, Bulgaria, and there he won a bronze medal in theworld junior championship. Two years later he went to Seúl, Corea and won the gold medal in the world junior championship.
He had participatemany times in the Olympic Games winning in 1996, 2003, 2005, 2007 the gold medal in march and the silver medal in 1999 and 2008.
The story of thisgood man show us a beautiful message. And it has to do with constancy and perseverance. His story is a good example of these two important things.He was and is a constant and perseverant man, and he got what he proposed to himself. That is the most beautiful thing that can happen to anyone.
