Geography:
Jordan, officially known as Hashemite Kingdomof Jordan, is located on the East Bank of the River Jordan in Southwest Asia. It is bordered by Israel to the west, Syria to the north, Saudi Arabia to the South-east, and Iraq to the North-east.Jordan is divided into three regions: East Jordan, the Jordanian Highlands, and the West Jordan. It is an agricultural country which produces products such as vegetables, wheat, citrus fruits, andolives. Jordan has deserts, fertile valleys, and rock and sand mountains. The population of Jordan is mostly composed of Arab descent, Arabic is the official language, and its capital is Amman.
History:Throughout history, Jordan was conquered by the Seleucids in the 4th century BC, by the Romans in the 1st century AD, and by Muslim Arabs in the 7th century. Then, when the crusades were over, Jordanbecame part of the Latin Kingdom of Jerusalem. In 1516, The Ottoman Empire gain control over this territory until World War I, when it became under the British control. Finally, Jordan gainedindependence in 1946. Opposition between Israelis and Palestinians started to grow; Jordan was an Arab state and that was against the creation of the State of Israel. In 1967, it participated in a war betweenIsrael and the Arab States of Syria, Egypt and Iraq, in which Israel gain control over the West Bank and Jerusalem. Jordan didn´t participate in the Gulf war of 1990, and later it agreed along withSyria, Lebanon, and Palestinian representatives to participate in peace negotiations with Israel. They sign a treaty in 1994 and since then Jordan has remain at peace with all of its neighbors.Culture:
The culture of Jordan is based in Arabic and Islamic traditions. Jordan has proximally 6,51 million people which 98% are Arabs, 1% are Circassian, and 1% are Armenian.
