SLIDE 1-RATINGS AND RISK
First of all, the figure shows Both Morningstar Return, Risk and Rating measured for up to three time periods: 3-year, 5-year and 10-year at the end of January of this year.These separate measures are then weighted and averaged to produce an overall measure for the fund.
Ratings are objective, based entirely on a mathematical evaluation of past performance.
Now I’mgoing to explain each one separately.
SLIDE 2-STAR RATING
Regarding star ratings, Morningstar rates mutual funds from one to five stars based on how well they've performed (after adjusting for riskand accounting for all sales charges) in comparison to similar funds.
Within each Morningstar Category, the top 10% of funds receive five stars, the next 22.5% four stars, the middle 35% three stars,the next 22.5% two stars, and the bottom 10% receive one star. In this case, JP Morgan Large Cap Value Select is ranked with 3 stars.
In addition, It has to be clear that ratings are a useful toolfor identifying funds worthy of further research, but shouldn't be considered buy or sell recommendations.
SLIDE 3-RETURN VS.RISK
The difference between the return and risk is that whereas return isan assessment of the fund's excess return over a risk-free rate, the risk is an assessment of the variations in a fund's monthly returns in comparison to similar funds, emphasizing both of them ondownward variation.
The greater the variation, the larger the risk score.
Knowing that in each Morningstar Category, the top 10% of funds earn a High Morningstar Return, overall our fund is classifiedamong the middle 35% Average.
On the other hand, the 10% of funds with the lowest measured risk are described as Low Risk, so, overall JP Morgan Large Cap Value Select is classified among the 22.5%Above Average.
