Kingdom of Heaven, Historical Review
Kingdom of Heaven is a heroic voyage about a common man who finds himself plunged into a decades-long war. A foreigner in a strange land, whoserves as a predestined king, falls in love with a mysterious and prohibited monarch queen, and upsurges to nobility. Eventually, he must defend the people of Jerusalem from devastating forces whilestruggling to maintain a delicate peace. Ridley Scott is definitely considered one of the best movie directors of our time, at conveying outstanding, exciting entertainment. Even though the moviedid follow many historical facts, it still had its deviations. But this is a movie were the actors maybe did not favor the plot or seriousness of the movie.
The enactments are strong, and thearrangements and outfits were very well accomplished. Balian of Ibelin, played by Orlando Bloom did manage the protection of the Holy City, and was the leader who yielded it to Saladin in October of 1187.The real Balian did not come out of Europe like the movies states, he was from outside Europe and his family had lived there for many years. His family was a fragment of a Christian group that favorednonviolent affairs with Muslims. His presence in Jerusalem at the time was not a calculated choice as the movies pervades, it was a merging of situations. Balian had asked Saladin for safe passagethrough Jerusalem for his wife and kids. Many of Saladin’s soldiers did not agree with this. So Saladin made Balian take an oath that he would just be in Jerusalem one night. As we know Balian askedto be released from his oath so he could lead the defense of Jerusalem.
Now let’s go over what were facts of history in the movie and what Hollywood added to it. Guy de Lusignan and Renaud deChatillon were factual historic figures.
