Art is a passion of mine. I’ve always loved viewing, deciphering and even making art. Being able to survey howexactly someone else sees the world is amazing. Hillwood Art Museum was a place that I knew about but I honestly never knew where the entrance was; I’d just love to look through the window. I neverreally made the time out to go because I didn’t really know how much the museum carried or if it would even be worth viewing. I figured it was student run and it was used strictly for art students andtheir artwork and shows from time to time like the area downstairs across from Starbucks. Since this was my assumption and expectation, what I viewed in the Hillwood Museum was surprising.
Themuseum is filled with artifacts from so many different eras. I was surprised when I realized so much of the layout reminded me of an actual museum. It was refreshing to see and hear the clear interest andlove for what the two women do in the museum surrounded by all the art. Their admiration for the artifacts they were talking about would have made anyone who originally had an aversion to thesituation be interested for the time being. The museum can teach you a lot about not only the history of the artifacts but the time surrounding them as well. The beginning of the lecture about WilliamRandolph Hearst was extremely informative. Looking at him in that perspective had me learning things about him that I didn’t previously know.
One of the best things about the museum is the atmosphere;tranquility and openness that are felt. There is no such thing as a stupid question and no one makes you feel inferior because they may know more than you do on a particular piece. Staying back afterclass was over and wandering around and talking with Professor Leyva-Gutierrez as well as the two instructors for the day was nice.
