The Harvest/La Cosecha Documentary was a very informative and extremely eye opening film that exposes the viewer to many things that no oneknows happen behind all of the fruits and vegetables as well as other products that we consume on a daily basis. La Cosecha consists on a type of reality show where the lives of 3 migrant childrenand their families from different parts of the country are exposed. This film has exposed to me many issues that I had no existed and that migrant children have to go through day by day while wecomplain of the hardships we have to go through.
One point that the movie touched on that I thought was very devastating and that makes me reflect on is the fact that they have such a difficult timetrying to finish school, since their families have to move from state to state once the season is over in their current one in order to work to support their families. In a part of the movie, PerlaSanchez mentions that it is not only hard having to leave her school and her friends, but also that many times since she has to move from one school to another in the middle of semesters, many times hercredits or classes will not transfer to the other schools, and she has to start all over again.
Another and the most important point in my perspective would have to be the fact that the law permitschildren ages 12 and even as early as 10 years old work in the fields legally. When for any other United States citizen like them it is prohibited to work until the age of 16 with parent or guardianpermission. This is the case of Zulema Lopez, that has been working in the fields, and that is basically all she knows about doing, and working in. They ask her if she has any dreams, but she’s noteven able to respond to the question because she seems clueless since working in the fields is all she knows.
