JANE AUSTEN
She was born on December 16th 1775 in the small village of Steventon Hampshire in England. She was the seventh child (out of eight) and the seconddaughter (out of two), of the Rev. George Austen.
She was one of the most widely read and best – loved writer in British literature. From about twelve years oldJane began writing her first novel called Spirited Parodies of the popular gothic. Her serious work began around 1794. Her works were Lady Susan, Elionor and Marianneand First impressions.
In 1797 First impressions was offered to a publisher by Jane Austen´s father. She also wrote Sense and Sensibility in 1811, Pride andPrejudice in 1813, Mansfield Park in 1814, and Emma in 1815. In 1816 Jane Austen´s health began to fail. She died at the age of 41 on July 18th 1817.
The most importantthings that she loved were balls, music, country walks, conversation, children and novels.
Her works were concerned with courtship, love and marriage, butshe never got married. Her novels have been adapted to many movies like Sense and Sensibility in 1995, Emma in 1996, Mansfield Park in 1999, Pride and Prejudicein 2005, Northanger Abbey in 2007, Persuasion in 2007and Becoming Jane in 2007.
Jane Austen´s works are full of intelligence and precisely crafted to conveyits often subtle meaning.
She lived in privacy and after her death her family censured and destroyed many of her letters.
