John Steinbeck

First I will speak about John Steinbeck and his most important books.

John Steinbeck: John Ernst Steinbeck, Jr. was born in Salinas (California) in February 27, 1902. He was an American writer he is known for the Pulitzer Prize he won with the novel The Grapes of Wrath and East of Eden.
Steinbeck received the Nobel price for literature in1962.

John Steinbeck’s major works:


The Grapes of Wrath: The Grapes of Wrath is an American realist novel written by John Steinbeck and published in 1939. Set during the Great Depression, the novel focuses on a poor family of tenant farmers from Oklahoma by drought, economic hardship, and changes in financial and agricultural industries.


East of Eden: East of Eden is a novel published inSeptember 1952 East of Eden brings to life the intricate details of two families, the Tasks and the Hamilton, and their stories. The novel was originally addressed to Steinbeck's young sons. Steinbeck wanted to describe the Salinas Valley for them in detail: the sights, sounds, smells, and colours.


Of Mice and Men: Of Mice and Men is a novel Published in 1937, it tells the tragic story ofGeorge Milton and Lennie Small, two displaced migrant ranch workers, who move from place to place in search of new job opportunities during the Great Depression in California, USA.


Travels with Charley : in search of America: It recounts tales of a 1960 road trip with his French standard poodle, Charley, around the United States. He wrote that he was moved by a desire to see his country on apersonal level, since he made his living writing about it. Steinbeck tells of travelling throughout the United States in a specially made camper he named Rocinante, His travels start in Long Island, New York, and roughly follow the outer border of the United States, from Maine to the Pacific Northwest, down into his native Salinas Valley in California, across to Texas, up through the Deep South, andthen back to New York. Such a trip encompasses nearly 10,000 miles.



In Dubious Battle: In Dubious Battle is a novel by John Steinbeck, written in 1936. The central figure of the story is an activist for "the Party" who is organizing a major strike by fruit pickers, seeking thus to attract followers to his cause.

The Long Valley: The Long Valley is a collection of short stories written by theAmerican author John Steinbeck. The collection was first published in 1938.[1] It comprises 12 short stories. The short stories were written over several years and are set in Steinbeck's birthplace, the Salinas Valley in California. They include The Murder; The Chrysanthemums, the representation of lynch mob violence in the The Vigilante; and the classic Red Pony tales. Many of the stories werepublished previously.
America and Americans: actually the last book of Steinbeck.is a collection of journalism.

Bombs Away: the Story of a Bomber Team: is a non fiction book by the American author John Steinbeck. It was written in 1942. The book is an account of Steinbeck's experiences with several Bomber crews of the US Army Air Forces during the Second World War. Steinbeck travelled more than20,000 miles in 30 days with photographer John Swope to various Air Force bases in the United States with the assignment of documenting the various jobs needed to form a bombing team.

The Great Depression was an economic depression in the decade preceding World War II. It started in 1930 and lasted middle 1940s.It was the longest, most widespread, and deepest depression ofthe 20th century. In the 21st century, the Great Depression is commonly used as an example of how far the world's economy can decline. The depression originated in the U.S., after the fall in stock prices that began around September 4, 1929, and became worldwide news with the stock market crash of October 29, 1929
