UBICATION

The Atlantic region is located in northern Colombia, ranging from the foothills of the mountains south of the region to the north Caribbean coast, and from the Gulf of Urabá in the west to the peninsula of La Guajira to theeast, in a extension of 151 118 square kilometers. Major rivers of this region are the Magdalena, Cauca, San Jorge, César, and Sinu, which are flooded valleys in the various departments that make up this region.
The temperature in this region is predominantly hot and humid, except high mountain areas and the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. The Atlantic region is characterized by a changing andcontrasting topography, including the flat lands around the mouth of the rivers, as well as the highest mountain next to the sea, the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. Because of this wide range of altitudes it is home to different ecosystems and ecologically rich spots.
In this region you will find beautiful beaches, with white sand and crystaline waters, as well as natural regions, full of magic andpeace. It is also an ideal place for skuba-diving, as well as a historically rich region.
ECONOMY
The economic activities of the Atlantic region are related to their physical characteristics, climatic and social. It highlights agriculture, livestock and fisheries, mining, industry, commerce, and tourism.
ATLANTIC
Barranquilla is an international port, industrial and commercial zone, whichrepresents a true pole of regional development. It has service sectors, trade and industry is fairly advanced. At the industry level, the department concentrates its production in the chemical and pharmaceutical, paper, food and beverages.
BOLIVAR
The economy of Bolívar department focuses mainly on services, among which we highlight the tourism and trade, industry, centered mainly in the production ofchemicals and oil refining and agriculture, with intensive cultivation of rice, and other crops which are operated by traditional means, such as bananas, maize, cassava, snuff and cane, among others.
CESAR
The economy in this department is based primarily on agriculture and services sectors among which intensive farming that distinguishes the department of Cesar. In recent years the mining sectorhas developed with the discovery of coal deposits in La Jagua. With regard to industry, it is based on the production of oils, fats and dairy products.
CORDOBA
Cordoba's economy is concentrated in the agricultural sector, with livestock (milk and meat) as the main source. Agriculture, industry and services also play an important role in the economy. Finally, fishing and mining have reached ahigh development. The department of Córdoba is one of the richest in water resources. 70% of the territory is formed by the plain of the Caribbean, with the valleys of San Jorge and Sinu rivers.

GUAJIRA

The largest sector is mining this department, with exploitation of coal, salt, copper and limestone. The services, among which trade, are another important economic source. The agriculturaland industrial activities do not have much development. In this department are located Coal Mines "The Cerrejón" which is the largest in the world and the salt Manaure.

MAGDALENA

The department's economy focuses on the agricultural sector, with a well developed animal husbandry and agriculture that focuses on the production of bananas, cotton, rice, maize, and cassava snuff. The industry iswell developed and focuses on food and beverages, such as palm oil processing. River and sea fishing is a major economic source for the department, as well as the exploitation of salt.

SUCRE
