Language awareness consists in knowledge about a language for example: how people learn and use the language, and how the language works, the skills we have for the language, attitudes toward thelanguage and perceptions about the language.
When students know what and why they are learning they get more open and interested in learning, that’s why building language awareness is important forstudents because it helps them to have a positive attitude toward the target language also they develop a confidence to try to use the language this makes them more active and responsible for theirlearning. (Mariani, 1992)
Also when theyknow about a language, where it comes from, how people use it, its roots, etcetera, they develop some appreciation for the language and get more interested in it.
This approach promotes independencein the student; since they are aware of the language, they are more involved in the learning process.
