Lenin's five year plan

LENIN’S NEW ECONOMIC POLICY AND STALIN’S FIVE -YEAR PLAN During the Russian Civil War Lenin followed the policy of War Communism, in which large industries, banks and crops were controlled by thestate. The plan was brought in to solve food crisis. However; after the Civil War Lenin realized the unpopularity of this plan because of the failing of small business and agricultural production, soLenin decided to regain the sympathy of the farmers and other workers and he developed the New Economic Policy (NEP). With the NEP, peasants were allowed to work the land and sell additional products,but it still belonged to the state. Small business could operate and large companies like banks were nationalized, foreign trade and investment were encouraged. Although the policy helped raise theRussian economy that had been at its minimum after World War I and the Civil War, many communist saw it as capitalism and therefore a retreat from communism. Lenin’s death in 1924 brought the NEP to anend. Stalin criticized it for creating many capitalist groups in Russia and reviving class divisions, but it remained as the official policy until 1928. In the period from 1928 to 1933 the FirstFive-Year Plan took place. Stalin believed that a strong economy developed from a strong country. Industrialization was the key point of his plans and he followed Lenin´s policies of War Communism. However,he feared peasants that benefited from the NEP were not going to support his system and therefore they had to accept socialism. Stalin industrialized Russia rapidly, farming became socialized, theprivate enterprise was eliminated and education and transport were developed. He used propaganda to inspire workers to follow industrialization as a good future for everyone. Education was developedbecause Stalin considered it necessary to have skilled industrial labor force.
