This paper is the justification for all my lesson plans. The first step towards a great class is to work along the students considering their motivation and willingness to learn using all the advantage that your environment could provided such as imagination and proper previous investigation of the topic. Being well prepare for all troubles that may come is alsoimportant. Something that I did not included in the lesson plan but is also important to consider students opinion of the class to realize their reaction towards the class and verify whether are progress or not in order to improve the procedure or the techniques for the future.
First of all for every lesson plan I made I stated what the aims were before actually write them and established the materialfor the activities that will be done. It is essential to know what the objectives are and how you will achieve them in order to succeed in teaching.
Thornbury’s (1999) E-factor is also essential to take into account. Because all the teacher energy should be employ efficiently in learner’s communication. I try to be economical (regrardind the time), ease with the material provided and the mostimport efficacy. These are the optimal conditions when giving a class.
The topic of the class was plans for the future because I tried to catch Ss attention, keep them interested in the topic, wich is part of the A-factor considering elements of appropriacy such as the age of the learners, their level, the sized of the group, their interests, the educational context, etc
For the first plan Idecided not to focus only in one skill but to integrate them as in a real life situation. According to Mc Donough, Jo and Shaw( 1993) to make students “communicatively competent” is essential to work with all the skills in conjunction because is more probable that Ss will gain a deep understanding on how communication works in the target language. These authors addressed Morrow (1981) to explain thatdealing with all these elements (skills) in isolation does not indicate the ability to communicate. Indirectly learners will be exposed to context where skills will establish naturally incorporating a wide range of factors that maximize language learning potential.
For my listening activity I chose to use (based) an activity suggested by Harmer(1991) in order to develop the ability to extractinformation. The author mentions that achieve this goal might be difficult due to some problems related to the recorder or the sound equipment. According to Mc donough, jo and shaw(1993)learners are not fully competent listeners in the target language and mention that they might have some listening misunderstanding with the words. In other words they might get confused the words and change them. Inorder to prevent from this kind of mishearing I decided first to do some predictions about the topic. Here is when some learners have to face with some hearing issues and the reasons will vary. For instance, the listener cannot control speed of delivery, they might not have a wide range of vocabulary, Ss may fail in recognizing the “signals”, perhaps the lack of schemata in the topic will madelearners to hesitate also sometimes lack of the ability concentrating in the foreign language affect their listening comprehension.
The main problem is that all learners are used to hearing instead of actual listening Mc donough, jo and shaw(1993) added that students tend to suspend their own mother tongue skills but this jus lead them to depend on the lower order skills like phonological decodingrather than paying attention to the message.
In order to succeed in this task I considered some of the Tanner, Rosie and Green(1998) teaching listening techniques such as announcing the topic of the passage then ask the students to brainstorm vocabulary they expect to hear in the passage, predict questions or information that might be ask or given in the passage and finally play the record and...
